Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Receives His Nigerien Counterpart and Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Cooperation in Labour, Employment and Social Security

Within the framework of the fraternal and cooperative relations between Algeria and Niger, the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Mr. Abdelhak Saihi, received, on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters, Ms. Aissatou Abdoulaye Tondi, Minister of Public Service, Labour and Employment of the Republic of Niger, and her accompanying delegation, as part of a working visit to Algeria by a Nigerien ministerial delegation on 23 and 24 June 2026 to follow up on the outcomes of the second session of the Joint Grand Commission and the bilateral consultation and coordination process.
The meeting provided an important opportunity to exchange views on prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in the fields of labour, employment and social security, and to strengthen partnerships between specialised institutions and organisations in the two countries, in a manner that supports social and economic development efforts and improves the quality of services provided to citizens.
During the talks, the Minister outlined the various reforms undertaken by Algeria in the relevant sectors, highlighting the public policies adopted to promote employment and improve working conditions through innovative programmes and mechanisms, particularly those targeting young people and based on investment in human capital, encouraging initiative and entrepreneurship, alongside a range of social measures aimed at strengthening economic and social inclusion.
The Minister also reaffirmed the commitment of the Algerian State to upholding the principles of the social State through a comprehensive and effective social protection system that safeguards workers’ dignity and ensures balance among the various stakeholders, within a framework based on social justice, dialogue and consultation.
For her part, the Nigerien Minister of Public Service, Labour and Employment commended Algeria’s experience in the fields of labour, employment and social security, expressing her country’s interest in benefiting from Algerian expertise, particularly in labour inspection, human resources development, strengthening monitoring mechanisms and improving the performance of institutions responsible for implementing social policies.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening technical and institutional cooperation through the development of joint training programmes and the exchange of expertise and experience among officials and experts. They also agreed to continue coordination on the draft cooperation agreement in the field of employment and labour mobility, which would provide a practical framework for developing cooperation and exchanging skills between the two countries, contributing to sustainable economic and social development and strengthening the values of solidarity and South-South African cooperation in the service of the interests of the peoples of the continent and their aspirations for greater prosperity and progress.
As part of the visit programme, the Minister and her accompanying delegation travelled to the headquarters of the Labour Inspectorate of the Algiers Wilaya, where the ministerial delegation attended a presentation on the missions of the Inspectorate and the monitoring of compliance with labour legislation. The delegation also attended a conciliation session, providing an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into Algeria’s experience in the amicable settlement of individual labour disputes and the promotion of a culture of social dialogue. This was followed by a technical presentation on equipment used to measure noise, lighting and dust, and their role in preventing occupational risks and improving health and safety conditions in the workplace.
The visit will continue until Wednesday, 24 June 2026, with a programme including a series of technical presentations and field activities aimed at enabling the Nigerien delegation to learn more about Algeria’s experience in the fields of labour, employment and social security, at the Ben Aknoun Family Centre.
